Q. What is the best pellet gun to buy when starting out?
A. The pellet rifles in this section give you the best chance of immediate success in your new hobby. Hitting the target is what it's all about! Compare the Archer
RateAGun ™ scores for the models you like.
The lower the score, the better the product being rated.
Most pellet rifles will like a certain type of pellets better than others, so buy a couple of different types of pellets to try.
Whatever pellet gun you buy, get a
scope with it. This will help you shoot accurately once it's sighted-in. Just follow the simple instructions on my YouTube videos:
The Easy Way to Sight-In an Air Rifle Scope
Our strong recommendation is not to buy an air rifle that shoots at 1,000 feet per second or more for your first pellet gun. These high-powered pellet rifles are marketed heavily. But they're usually hard to shoot, require a special hold that needs skill to perfect, and are
no more accurate than slower guns. You'll see on their product pages that 1000fps+ guns often have high (poor)
RateAGun ™ scores for that reason. You don't need 1000fps to have fun and shoot your new pellet gun with confidence.
Important Information
Remember to make sure you have a location to shoot legally. Check your town and state laws and restrictions on pellet gun ownership and usage. Pellet guns shoot fairly short distances and can be quite quiet. This means they can often be fired in backyards and basements with appropriate precautions.
Always remember that pellet guns are not toys and should be treated with respect. Safe shooting is always top priority.
